Eczema

Also known as atopic dermatitis, eczema is a skin condition that causes redness, itching, and inflammation. There are multiple varieties of eczema (atopic dermatitis, dyshidrotic eczema, nummular eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis), and symptoms can appear anywhere on the body, though hands, feet, face, and torso are especially common. Eczema is not contagious and cannot be spread from person to person. While the precise cause of eczema is not known, patients who develop eczema tend to have an over-reactive immune system which is aggravated by an external trigger. While there is no cure for eczema, the condition is treatable with lifestyle changes, over-the-counter products, prescription topical treatments, oral and injectable medications, and phototherapy.
